- I went ahead and replaced the main bearings in my 1500 yesterday with the engine in the car and the oil pan dropped. The one exception being the front, upper shell which proved impossible to remove.

- IMHO, pressure plate faults are most likely to show up as slipping (engine but car maintains speed) or judder (impossible to smoothly engage clutch). It sounds like you're describing something else.
